Tool 01 · Size finder

What size jacket do I need?

Most jacket sizes are based on chest measurement. Measure around the fullest part of your chest, choose how you like your jackets to fit, and we’ll suggest a size plus the garment measurement to look for on a size chart.

What should I wear today?

The right jacket depends on more than the temperature. Wind makes it feel colder and rain changes the fabric you need. Set the conditions and get a simple four-layer plan.

Tool 03 · Material compare

Leather or wool? Down or waxed cotton?

Every jacket material has strengths. Pick two to compare warmth, wind protection, water resistance, breathability and durability side by side. Scores are general, as linings and construction make a difference too.

Six signs of a well-made jacket

  • Straight, dense stitching with no loose threads at the shoulders or pockets.
  • A smooth zip that runs without catching, with fabric guards at the top.
  • Matched seams where pockets and panels line up neatly.
  • A full or neat half lining that lets the jacket slide on easily.
  • Reinforced stress points at pocket corners and cuffs.
  • Room to move: you can reach forward without the back pulling.

Questions

Jacket FAQ

How should a jacket fit?

The shoulder seam should sit at the edge of your shoulder, sleeves should end around the wrist bone, and you should be able to cross your arms without the back pulling tight. Leave a little extra room if you plan to layer.

What is the most versatile jacket?

For many people it’s a mid-weight jacket in a neutral colour, such as a navy bomber, a denim jacket or a khaki field jacket. These work with jeans, chinos and casual tailoring across several seasons.

How do I measure my chest for a jacket?

Wrap a soft tape measure around the fullest part of your chest, under your arms, keeping it level and snug but not tight. Breathe normally while measuring.

Can I wash a leather jacket?

No. Wipe leather with a slightly damp cloth, let it dry naturally and use a leather conditioner a couple of times a year. For stains, use a specialist leather cleaner.

How do I store jackets out of season?

Clean them first, then hang them on broad, shaped hangers in breathable garment bags. Store puffers loosely rather than compressed so the insulation keeps its loft.
